v 1.1.2 e
(C) 2002 - PM

-- Disclaimer --

MonoPalm IS NOT the official PalmOS version of the famous game Monopoly(R) from Hasbro.

Please visit www.handmark.com/products/monopoly for the official registred PalmOS version of Monopoly(R).

Description

MonoPalm is a freeware reproduction from the old "public domain" monopoly game for PalmOS (except a few details...).
At this moment, MonoPalm confoms the game, except for auctions and a few details like that.
The game is played with 2 thru 4 players, all "human" (right now)

The aim of the game is to become the richer by buying, selling, building in a profit way in order to ruin your opponents and, why not, reach the monopoly !

Required configuration

MonoPalm should work fine on every PalmOS 3.5 system and above. However, it has been made with colors and, for the moment, only colour handled owners will fully enjoy it.

WARNING : delete any version of MonoPalm before 1.1.0 before to install this one.

Don't hesitate to send me your remarks or suggestions... and to report all the bugs you find ;-)

Prior to start

When you first launch the program, you have to select the game's database you want to play with.

You can of course change it for each new game.

Be careful : if no database was downloaded, you can't play !

Because of the small screen size, I did not have room enough to show the title bar... So, you have to tap the "Menu" Graffiti place to bring it down.

At any time, you can have information about Property Title, special spaces or players, just by tapping the different areas of the board.

Remember you can only leave MonoPalm before a die throw (after a turn is over). The current game is saved and restored next time you launch the program.

Start a new game

In the menu "Game", select "New game". If you are already running a game, an abandon confirmation will be asked.

Then, you see the players select window.
Enter each name and check "Active" to make it taking part in the game.

You can also change the game's database by tapping the "set" button which will give you access to the right screen.

A database can on only be changed prior to start a new game.

Players tokens are set on the "Go" space and their Name, Current Fund and Space are displayed in the board's center area.

At any time you can tap a player's Name to see his patrimony details.

Turn sequence

Usually, a turn begins by a dice throw, which makes the token move and then, according with the space upon which it stops, an action may be forced (rent or tax payment, "Chance" ou "Community Chest" card pick up...).
When the player is in jail, his turn begins an other way.

Then, the player is offered the ability to manage his patrimony in different ways : buy the Property Title, buy or sell houses, mortgage, take a loan, make a transaction with another player.

When the "Continue" button has been pressed, the turn is over and the next player's turn begins.

Attention : when a player throws a double 3 consecutive times, he goes directly to jail !

Special spaces

Space "Go" Collect the amount allowed by the current game when you pass over or when you stop upon (ex. : $ 200 for the US version).
This amount can be doubled when you stop on the space (cf. Game Options).

Players whose token stops on this space are "Just visiting" and are going on as usual.

When a token stops upon this space, the player collects the total amount.
Go to jail ! When a player stops his token upon this space, he goes directly to jail, without passing "Go".
The token is placed on the space "Jail / Just visiting" and rounded by a gray square significant his arrest.
Incom Tax The player whose token stops upon this space must pay the amount allowed by the current game (ex. : $ 200 for the US version).
The amount may be added to the "Free Parking", according with the Game Options.

Player's actions

When his turn comes, a player has the ability to make a few actions :

Buy the
Property Title
Give the corresponding amount to the bank and becomes the title's owner.
Starting from here, when another player stops his token upon this space, he pays the corresponding rent to the owner.
Suggest a Transaction Suggests a transaction to another player : exchange, buy, sell of Property titles.
House buying Buy house(s) on one or more title's family.
You are able to build on a family ONLY when you owe all the titles of this color.
House selling Sell house(s) on one or more title's family.
May be useful when you get short of money...
Mortgage
titles

Mortgage one or more properties.
For each property you want to mortgage, you get half of the buying price from the bank.
Still owner, you don't collect anything when another player stops upon a mortgaged title and you can't build on the title's family.

Unmortgage Unmortgage one or more properties.
To unmortgage, you have to pay the amount of the mortgage plus a 10% interest.
The property can be built and you can collect rent again.
Loans Allows you to take a new loan or to refund your current loan(s) to the bank.
This faculty is not from the initial game but it adds spice to the game, no ?
Continue
(next player)
End of your turn, let next player do his job...
Each action is only possible under a few conditions. Unauthorized actions are grayed (ex. : you don't have meney enough - negative amount-, you can't continue and terminate your turn).

Player in jail's turn

A player can stand a maximum of 3 turns in jail.

When his turn comes, different options may be allowed :

  • Pass your turn : if the 3 turns are not over, the player stays in jail
  • Throw dice : if the player trow a double, he goes out of jail and moves his token of the number shown on dice; or else, he stays in jail...
  • Pay a fine : if the player have enough money, he pays the amount indicated (ex. : $ 50 for the US version) and throws the dice to move his token
  • Use a card : when the player owes a "Go out of jail free" card (picked up from "Chance" or "Community Chest"), he can use it and go out of jail for free. Then he throws dice and moves his token
  • Buy a card : if another player owes a "Go out of jail free" card, the prisoner may buy it if the owner agrees. When this option is selected, the amount can be entered. The player then goes out of jail and throws dice to move his token

If the player is not out of jail after 3 turns, he has to pay the fine allowed by the current game (ex. : $ 50 for the US version) and then throw dice to move his token.
The fine may
be added to the "Free Parking", according with the Game Options.

.

A special window displays the summary of the interests you have to pay.
Once again, you can display loan details by tapping the <?> button.

The total interests amount is subtracted from your funds when you tap <OK>.

The two kinds of loan are :

Action : Transaction

When 1 player owes a property, any player can deal with him.

First, select properties you want to sell or exchange plus, eventually, an optional amount.

Remark : when you owe all the properties of a family, the "Bare ownership" is doubled.

Railroad stations and utilities (Electric Company and Water Works ) are an exception :

For railroad stations, the rent depends on the number of stations owned by the player.
The bold amount is the applicable rent.

For utilities, the rent is dice amount multipied by the current game coefficient for one or two utilities, depending on how many the player owes.

Game Options

Game Options allows you to setup a few things for the game :

  • <Traditional game> button : set the default options for traditional game rules
  • Options :
    • Purchase allowed on first turn : some variant games of the game allows property buying only from the second turn of the game.
Check this option to allow properties buying from 1st turn (traditional game)
    • Transactions when all cards sold : initial game doesn't allow transactions between players before all properties are sold.
Check this option to prohibit transactions before everything has been sold (traditional game)
    • Actions during a turn in jail : allow or not a player in jail to buy or sell houses, mortgage, take a loan, offer a transaction...
Check this option to allow actions during the turn of a player in jail (traditional game)
    • Loans allowed : this possibility does not exist in the initial game.

This option allows a variant that many people are using : doubling the normal salary when a token stops on "Go".

Put the slider on the most right position for no animation

Game Options (page2) :
  • 'Free Parking' options :

    • 'Chance' & 'Community Chest' : check this option for fines or amounts to pay because of a "Chance" or "Community Chest" card goes to the "Free Parking"
  • Initial capital : amount given to each player when begining a new game (ex. : $ 1,500 for the US version).

In the initial monopoly game, fines and other amounts ars not added to the "Free Parking". However, this way of playing is widely held.
